On the seemingly long road to loving ourselves for all our diversities (and not in spite of them) these women stand tall and triumphant and champion the lives, journeys and achievements of women from all walks of life. Impressed? Inspired? So are we.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
International Women’s Day is an opportunity to honour the women who have been at the forefront of fighting against gender inequality. It is a day to reflect on the work that still remains, knowing that many women continue to be unheard, excluded from civil rights and government practices. It is a day to continue to protest against discrimination and inequities in education and legal rights in society. It is a day to remind us to look beyond our bodies and race, and to think about how we can make future progress daily.
How would you describe the modern woman?
Today’s modern women don’t allow the world or anyone else to put limitations on them! They write their own rules, pave their own way, believe in themselves and in others. They bask in their power and femininity. They are confident, compassionate women who know they are incredible, radiant beings; in other words; they are in all of us.
What are you doing for International Women’s Day?
Celebrating it with my daughter (& son)
What does international women’s day mean to you?
International Women’s Day for me is being recognized and appreciated for what I do and who I am. That doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman. What matters is that you are in the right role and position and getting the job done!
How would you describe the modern woman?
I don’t like to relate it to a gender. It’s about being a stronger person.
The modern woman is brave and intelligent enough to know her own strengths and weaknesses.
What are you doing for International Women’s day?
Booking a full body massage, taking a good bath, treating my hair and skin and preparing my favorite meal with a big glass of wine
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
It means equality, it means the elimination of discrimination and it also means the celebration of women in general. We’re all so powerful. We should be celebrating this everyday!
How would you describe the modern woman?
The modern woman is confident, strong, empowering and will stand up for what she believes in.
What are you doing for International Women’s Day?
We will be celebrating this day with our mum, sister and friends. It’s a great excuse to grab your girlfriend’s for a long luncheon.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
To me it's a day that as a collective we (women and men) come together to shout from the rooftops what should be a fundamental right for all - to to be treated, paid, protected and respected no matter what your gender is. I choose to remind myself on this day to re-read up on people throughout history who fought in the women’s movement (and who continue to now).
How would you describe the modern woman?
I wouldn't, I'd let her do that. We are all so different, and that's what is so fantastic about this age - our options are becoming unique and limitless.
What are you doing for International Women’s Day?
To be honest, I actually tried to organise a champagne lunch with the women I love but we're all so bloody independent and different that everybody is off adventuring! So maybe I'll call or write to the women I love most, and maybe I'll also just look inward and feel a little proud of the woman I've become.
What does international women’s day mean to you?
International women’s day is the celebration of the social, economic, political and cultural achievements of women. It also brings to light that in many countries women now have equal rights but there are still places across the globe where women’s rights have a long way to go and call to action is necessary to help bring forth positive change.
How would you describe the modern woman?
A modern woman can mean all different kinds of things to different people. To me a modern woman is free to pursue her passions, interests, and goals. The modern woman can be a stay at home mom, a founder of her own company or both. The modern woman believes in herself and her abilities. She believes she has potential for growth, and achievement with hard work and determination. The modern woman embraces her unique traits and superpowers that make her a woman. She is not confined to old standards of living in one way, but free to flow where her interests and gifts guide her.
What does international women’s day mean to you?
International women’s day is always a celebration every year of the achievements women in our world have made, bringing women closer together & pushing for global equality amongst genders. International women’s day is the day of the year women stand for what they believe in & hold women in their lives they love extra close to them.
How would you describe the modern woman?
The modern woman is whoever and whatever she wants to be she’s fiercely independent but also open with her vulnerabilities. She’s strong and stands tall but also gentle, loving and compassionate. The modern woman doesn’t fit into categories or labels, she can do BOTH, she is who she chooses to be.
What are you doing for International Women’s day?
Every year I do something, last year I marched and did a series of powerful videos on @any.body_co, the year before I created imagery and told stories. This year I’m spending it a little different, appreciating the women close to me, loving and celebrating those women and also practicing a little self love for myself too.
How would you describe the modern woman?
She is independent, she’s proud of women around her and she shows it; unashamedly and joyfully.
As a modern woman, what do you see as your greatest strength?
I think being different. I see being unique as interesting. And it’s what we all have in common.
What are you doing for International Women’s Day?
I’m just going to have a nice relaxing day and make sure I tell the women I admire in my life that they make the world a better place!
