CHELSEY ROUEN’S GUIDE TO MILOS

CHELSEY ROUEN’S GUIDE TO MILOS

Luminous mediterranean blues, show-stopping sunsets and the calm white-washed streets – it’s easy to understand the instant appeal of Milos.
We joined Chelsey Rouen on her recent travels to the Greek island and convinced her to share her favourite spots. How lucky are we?

Chelsea RouenAlways in search of calm, quiet and natural beauty, Milos was the destination answering all of my travel dreams this year. For the explorers, there are many places to visit and for those who love to really take a break from anything that takes any kind of effort, here is your place.

CHELSEY ROUEN

Where to stay

A Fisherman's Hut! You can find many of these traditional 'Syrmata' on the island, ours was in the small village of Agios Konstantinos and the experience alone was a highlight of the trip. Waking up on the water, being a short stroll away from Alogomandra beach (a hidden gem on the island), it was here we were really able to switch off and relax into island life.

Where to watch the sunset

As beautiful as each sunset was on this island, one not to be missed is at the Venetian Castle in the old town of Plaka. Being so high, you get some of the most incredible views of the island and the walk up there is a delight in itself. Another place I truly enjoyed watching the sun go down was in Pollonia, on the deck right outside our accommodation.

Where to eat

Pollonia has many amazing restaurants, with plenty of plant based options too. Our favourites were Enalion (traditional Greek with organic ingredients form their own farm) and the Japanese, Hanabi for more of a fine dining experience. When visiting Plaka, I can't recommend Barriello enough, offering Greek cuisine in a whole new delicious light.

Must visit beaches

Alogomandra was a personal favourite, being an easy walk from our Syrmata, this beach boasted some of the bluest water we found. Firiplaka was also one of those 'wow, I've never seen anything like this before' beaches with its sunset coloured rocks of yellow, pink and lilac. Finally, Sarakiniko, the moon beach that helped me discover this island in the first place.
