INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY WITH DRONME

INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY WITH DRONME

For International Women’s Day, we’re choosing to celebrate our incredible community of women. What better way to do so than to spotlight one of those fabulous women. Meet @dronme, the awe-inspiring beauty that is using her voice to empower ALL women, to have the uncomfortable conversations and to have fun. We sat down with the California born, jalapeño margarita drinking, “cry-all-the-time” Pisces, to hear what she had to say.

What is your star sign and are you an astrological believer?

I am a big ole cry-all-the-time Pisces. With my Moon sign in Sagittarius and my Mars sign in Scorpio, I am quite an emotional being.  I’ll be 22 on the 10th of March! I am a big-time believer. My mum has been taking me to an astrologer since before I was even born!

What is your favourite movie of all time?

I watch the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy at least once a month. So that and The Devil Wears Prada. I know Miranda Priestly’s Cerulean monologue by heart.

Sweet or savoury? What’s your favourite recipe?

Savoury. Favourite recipe of all time is the jalapeño cilantro margarita’s my grandmother makes. And anything with melted cheese on it.

Tell us a bit about you, what are you about, where are you from, you know, the basics haha.

I’m born and bred in beautiful California! I spent most of my life living in the mountains, but recently moved to the coast of Mendocino. Before I dropped out of college, a surprising but somewhat welcomed side effect of this bizarre year, I was majoring in women’s history and African American studies. I’d love to write for The Atlantic or Teen Vogue someday, or anywhere that I can spend my time riling up the next generation of feminists. I love to read, mostly stories about unhinged women and anything written by Audre Lorde or Roxane Gay. I also spend a humiliating amount of time brainstorming ways to stage a meet-cute with Dev Patel.

What does International Women's Day mean to you?

This means empowering ALL women to use their voices, stand their ground and take up as much space as possible. Specifically, this day and all of forever needs to be used to amplify the voices of women of colour who suffer from so much of societies brutal bigotry and are often edged out of the conversation when we are discussing women’s rights. Being in an oppressed body is a full-time job, and so I also think it is necessary to use this time for joy and dance and laughter.

What sparked the fire in you to use your platform to advocate for women's rights and body positivity?

I spent so many years bottling up all of my feelings and I needed somewhere to put it. I wouldn’t necessarily call myself an advocate or an activist, I don’t really know what that means. Mostly I just talk about myself too much and share the brilliance of the feminist scholars I look up to.  If there is anything I want people, women especially, to take away from my platform it’s that you don’t owe anybody anything.

How would you describe your style?

Colourful and textured and sometimes really stupid. But I think that’s good. I spent so much time buying into the myth of “dressing for my body type,” only wearing what made me look skinny and trendy. That’s a really boring and creatively suffocating place to dress from, so now I just wear whatever I want and sometimes I look like a circus animal trying to wear human clothes who doesn’t really understand how to mix prints or match, but whatever, that’s me.

What are your favourite Auguste pieces from the Poetica collection?

Easily the Nomad Micha Midi Dress. Animal print never hurt anyone and it makes me feel so powerful! The Resort Midi Dress in Rose is also super beautiful. With the right styling I would feel veryyyy Practical Magic which is always the goal in anything I do.

What are you most looking forward to in 2021?

I’m looking forward to spending lots of time in the ocean, and hopefully going back to university. I want to create beautiful art, become better at embracing my emotions and learn the outrageous dance Maggie Rogers does in her ‘Give A Little’ music video. I feel mostly confident about the dance.
